Government and Organized Labour have signed a new wage agreement, raising the base pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) by 9% for the 2026 fiscal year.
The agreement, concluded on Sunday, November 9, 2025, was reached after negotiations under the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee (PSJSNC). It takes effect from January to December 2026.
According to the signed document, “The Base Pay on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) has been increased by 9% across board from January 2026 to December 2026..”
This means all public sector workers under the Single Spine structure will see a uniform 9% salary adjustment next year.
Beyond the pay rise, the agreement also commits the government to continued dialogue with labour unions over pending issues.
As stated, “Government commits to engage with unions on outstanding conditions of service.”
Both parties further pledged to maintain collaboration on broader economic management, agreeing that “The Parties shall regularly engage on the management of the economy.”
The agreement was signed by Dr. George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), and Bro. Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC). It was witnessed by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Dr. Isaac Bampoe Addo.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticized the new agreement, arguing that its government had delivered better results despite global economic challenges during its tenure.
