The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that all sixteen regions of Ghana have fully operational passport application centers by the end of 2025.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bolgatanga Passport Office in the Upper East Region, the Minister said the initiative forms part of efforts to make essential public services more accessible and to eliminate the difficulties citizens face in obtaining passports.

According to him, establishing passport centers in the remaining five regions will promote inclusive development and ensure that every Ghanaian benefits from government initiatives, regardless of geographical location.

“Today, as we make history, we are sending a very clear statement that development must be inclusive. It must not be centred only in certain areas of our country, but government services must be made available to all parts of Ghana,” Ablakwa stated.

He emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama’s government is dedicated to ensuring equitable development across all regions, so that every part of the country experiences the impact of national progress.

Ablakwa also commended the cooperation among local stakeholders, traditional leaders, and the private sector, describing the project as a model for community-driven development.

“What excites us about today’s ceremony is that it is a testament of teamwork and togetherness. The Alagube Association came together to mobilize resources, while Ghana Commercial Bank gladly made their property available for renovation. This is the kind of community development that we want to encourage,” he said.

He further acknowledged the dedication of staff at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who, despite logistical challenges, ensured that the new facility meets both national and international standards.

“Our technical teams have done incredible work — from design to inspection — to make sure this center meets the standards required for passport processing,” he noted.

The Minister revealed that the expansion of passport services will be complemented by the rollout of digital systems to enhance efficiency and reduce processing time.

He said the government remains committed to leveraging technology to streamline the passport application process and improve transparency.

“This government believes that access to a passport should not be a privilege for a few, but a right for every Ghanaian who wishes to explore opportunities abroad,” Ablakwa added.
