GRA confident of exceeding Ghc32.78billion revenue despite 15.25% shortfall

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is confident of exceeding the 2023 revenue target of Ghc32.78 billion despite negative deviation of Ghc2.8billion representing 15.25% as at July 22, 2023.

The Commissioner of Customs Division at GRA Alhaji Seidu Iddrisu stated that although the division exceeded 1st to 22nd July target by Ghc210.66 million representing 11.08%, cumulatively, from January to 22nd July 2023,it collected Ghc15.55 billion against target of Ghc18.35billion which is shortfall of 15.25%.

He was however optimistic that characteristics of the revenue collection trends in the country, collection from second quarter of the year will increase significantly.

He urged staff of the authority to put shoulders to wheel and exceed the 2023 revenue target of Ghc32.78 billion.We must prove that we can stand up to the challenge.Let us show that we can do it”.

The commissioner of Customs Division Ahaji Seidu Iddrisu said this when addressing the 2nd National Delegates Congress of Customs Staff Association in Koforidua under the theme “promoting the culture of information sharing to enhance border security and revenue collection; the Role of Customs Staff Association and Management.”

He underscored the importance of information sharing in strengthening the ability to combat smuggling,protect national security, maximize revenue and contribute to economic development.

He said “customs to customs corporation is another method of information sharing that can help administrations enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in performing their roles and responsibilities at border management, trade facilitation, protection of society, maximum and fair revenue collection and ensuring security and controls”

Alhaji Seidu Iddrisu, added that while fostering a culture of information sharing within the organization it is imperative to strengthen partnership with external stakeholders.

“Collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, international organizations and private sector is essential for holistic approach to border security and revenue collection”.

Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Acheampong called on Custom Staff and Management to enhance collaboration for effective and efficient revenue mobilization.

He reiterated commitment of government in providing the needed support and digital interventions for enhanced intelligence and maximize revenue.

Chairman of the Customs Staff Association, Ebenezer Bob Eshun urged management to involve the association in decision making.

He said the Association is committed to building modern hospital to provide quality healthcare for staff and through collaboration with University of Cape Coast developing Bachelor and Masters degree program for upgrade of custom staff.
