The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an internal investigation following allegations of extortion by officers of the Customs Division Task Force in the Ashanti Region.
The claims, raised by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana (TAGG), involve reports that officers demanded additional payments from importers after intercepting containers en route to Kumasi, citing undervaluation.
In a statement dated Thursday, November 27, the GRA said it is taking the matter seriously, emphasizing that the investigation “will be comprehensive, and the general public will be informed about the outcome as soon as it is concluded.”
The Authority stressed its commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that it “remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity of its staff and transparency in our operations to ensure fairness.”
The GRA also urged traders and the general public to support its efforts by reporting any suspected malpractices through established channels.
