Accra Hearts of Oak delivered a statement performance on Sunday night, defeating fierce rivals Asante Kotoko 1-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in a pulsating Ghana Premier League Super Clash.
The Phobians drew first blood early in the encounter when Baba Adamu rose highest to power home a header in the 14th minute, silencing the home supporters in Kumasi. The early strike proved decisive in a match filled with intensity, passion, and fierce midfield battles.
Kotoko responded strongly, pushing numbers forward in search of an equaliser. The Porcupine Warriors dominated spells of possession and created promising chances, but Hearts’ defensive organization stood firm.
The game took another dramatic turn when Hearts were reduced to 10 men following a red card to Emmanuel Amankwah. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the visitors showed resilience and tactical discipline to protect their slender lead.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare emerged as one of the heroes of the night, producing crucial saves to deny Kotoko and preserve the clean sheet under intense pressure.
The victory hands Hearts of Oak crucial bragging rights in Ghana’s biggest club rivalry and strengthens their position in the league standings, while Kotoko are left to reflect on missed opportunities in front of their home fans.
Once again, the Super Clash lived up to its billing high drama, electric atmosphere, and unforgettable moments but this time, it was the Phobians who returned to Accra with all three points.
Hearts currently sits third on the league log with 39 points while Kotoko sits fifth with 35 points.
