The Evangelical Presbyterian University College has graduated a combined five hundred and seventy students who completed their programmes of studies for the 2018/19 and 2019/20 academic years at a ceremony held in Ho on Friday.

The 570 graduates consist of a total of 282 students for the year 2019 and 288 students for the 2020 academic year who were awarded certificates for various degree programmes.

Addressing the congregation which was held under strict Covid-19 protocols, the President of the University, Professor Edem Kwasi Bakah noted that the University is seeing significant growth in its performance but has more room for improvement.

Prof. Bakah added that the University is steadily adding some more programmes in ensuring that it produces graduates who would meet the human capital requirements of the nation while announcing the introduction of “market-driven and ICT infused programmes.”

He said, “Our nation needs a lot more graduates who can analyze complex problems confronting us and devise the best solutions based on strong reasoning and critical thinking”.

EIB’s Faisal Abdul Iddrisu was one of the graduands

The newly introduced programmes according to him include graduate school of accounting, finance, human resource management, procurement, supply chain management, and marketing.

As part of the University’s progress, Prof. Bakah announced plans to establish a Law Faculty and also, postgraduate programmes in peace and security to beef up interest in a strong justice system in the country.

The President further indicated that the Evangelical Presbyterian University College is seeking to consolidate its relationship with affiliate institutions and working partners while working to attract institutions in Europe to its exchange programmes, staff development, and research aspirations.

He, however, bemoaned the infrastructure challenges the University currently faces while appealing to government to consider providing the needed support towards the relocation of the University campuses to its permanent site near the Ho airport.

In his address, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa commended the EP Church for the establishment of the University, which he said is providing the people of the Volta region and beyond the best of tertiary education.

Dr. Letsa assured the congregation of government’s support in ensuring that the University surmounts the current dreadful infrastructure challenges.

Affiliated to the University of Cape Coast, the Evangelical Presbyterian University College was established in 2008 as a faith-based institution that would offer University education to all manner of persons.

Currently, EPUC offers 16 undergraduate programmes within six schools with a total student population of 1000 and 52 teaching staff.
