Ghana’s first ever gold medalist at the Youth Olympics Martha Bissah has exclusively told Starr Sports she will decide whether to compete for Ghana again by the end of 2021. The young and energetic athlete who is currently in the USA under a four-year scholarship program at the Norfolk State University in Ohio, recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in management. She was suspended indefinitely by the Prof. Francis Dodoo led administration in June 2016 for gross insubordination. There have been calls for the GAA and government to intervene for the ban to be lifted but Martha Bissah insists by the end of next year if nothing is done about her ban, she will reconsider her decision on competing for Ghana.
“I don’t hate Ghana, I am a Ghanaian and I love being a Ghanaian but what will make someone decide not to compete for Ghana will depend on how that person is treated”
“I want people to understand that I love Ghana because I was born in Ghana but If something is done and they are ready to call me, I am ever ready to compete again for my country but if nothing is done within next year, two or three years could be long so I am waiting by the end of next year hopefully things can be done if not, I will make a decision on my future and the whole world will know though I will not say its country A,B or C” Bissah told Starr FM Sports.
Martha Bissah made history for Ghana at the 2014 Youth Olympic games when she won Ghana’s first ever Olympic Gold medal at any level following her victory in the 800m final in China.
