Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has officially welcomed an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission team, led by Dr. Ruben Atoyan, to begin the Fifth Review of Ghana’s IMF-Supported Programme.

The review, which runs ahead of the programme’s conclusion in May 2026, is crucial in determining whether Ghana will secure its next disbursement of USD 360 million in October. Analysts also see it as a test of the country’s fiscal credibility as IMF oversight gradually winds down.
In his remarks, Dr Ato Forson reflected on Ghana’s economic journey since the beginning of the year, explaining that while 2025 began with considerable challenges, government interventions and collective national effort had “steadied the tide and delivered notable progress He acknowledged, however, that some risks remain and stressed that the government is committed to addressing them decisively.
He added that the Fifth Review offers an important opportunity for Ghana to assess its progress under the programme and benefit from the IMF’s feedback.
IMF mission chief Dr. Ruben Atoyan expressed optimism, saying the Fund looks forward to the review process in the coming days.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Asiama, First Deputy Governor Dr. Zakari Mumuni, and Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance Dr Patrick Nomo.
