The Ghana Police Service has uncovered horrifying details in the murder investigation of Ghana Immigration Service officer, Assistant Inspector Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area in Accra on July 9, 2025.

According to the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, forensic investigations at the residence of the prime suspect, Bright Aweh, revealed blood stains in the living room, freshly sprayed walls, and signs of a hasty cleanup.

During a presser in Accra on Monday, August 4, COP Donkor explained that investigators also discovered a burnt woollen carpet, blood-stained camouflage fabric, and a fufu pestle soaked in blood hidden in nearby bushes—pointing to a violent struggle.

The police impounded Aweh’s vehicle after detecting traces of blood, while all materials have been sent for forensic testing.

The police added that DNA samples from the deceased’s mother and son are being used to confirm the identity of the remains.

“A forensic inspection revealed the following: Blood stains in the living room and evidence of attempted cleanup. Freshly sprayed walls and empty can of spray paint. A search of a secondary crime scene near the GBC satellite area also uncovered a burnt wooden carpet stained with blood and partially burnt camouflage fabric. These items were photographed, retrieved and processed for forensic analysis,” COP Donkor explained.

Aweh, who initially claimed to have handed Amoah GH¢500,000 as partial debt repayment on July 3—the night the officer went missing—was first charged with kidnapping.

He has since been re-arrested and formally charged with murder following mounting evidence. He is currently on remand and expected to reappear before the Adabraka District Court on August 8.

The case, which began with a missing person report on July 4, escalated after Amoah’s burnt body was identified by relatives.

Subsequent investigations revealed attempts to conceal the crime, including the use of spray paint on walls and disposal of bloody items in nearby bushes.

Police say the probe is ongoing, with a special operation underway to locate and arrest any accomplices.
