Morning Starr host Isaac Addae, in agreement with President Mahama’s position on the National Cathedral, has raised concerns about the project’s current location and questioned whether Christians would be willing to financially support its construction.
Speaking on national issue on Morning Starr on Starr FM, Isaac Addae said the current site was already congested, with major institutions and facilities occupying the area.
He suggested that relocating the project to a less-developed area could free up the current site for commercial activities while creating opportunities for the development of a new community.
He cited any community out of Accra where the project could potentially stimulate development by attracting businesses, residents and other economic activities.
Isaac Addae also questioned the level of financial commitment from Christians towards the project, noting that the Christian Council had previously raised about GH¢30 million over a period of roughly three to four years.
He argued that if Christians were given the opportunity to contribute financially to the project, there should be a clear indication of whether they would be willing to support it.
Isaac Addae also agreed with President Mahama that the National Cathedral was not captured in the manifesto of the former governing New Patriotic Party, describing it instead as a personal commitment made by former President Akufo-Addo.
He maintained that the discussion should not only focus on whether the National Cathedral should be built, but also on its location, funding and the potential economic opportunities that could emerge from developing the area where it is eventually sited.
