KBTH revenue impasse: uniBank, Stanbic collaborated well – Fmr. board chair

A former board chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Prof. Anthony Sallah has said the decision to include unibank- an indigenous bank- in revenue collection was to ensure that a local interest was protected.

According to him, the two banks collaborated effectively to rake in more revenue for the hospital when they started operations.

“As management, we wanted a Ghanaian bank to be on board. I was not happy we had just foreign banks on board. We charged management to get some local banks as well.

“During our time, there was no sabotage between the two banks. When Stanbic Bank and uniBank started the revenue collection, we had a lot of money. With the monies we collected, we were able to pay off some of our debts,” he told Francis Abban on Morning Starr Monday.

The comment comes on the back of claims by the management of Korle Bu hospital that uniBank had not delivered to their satisfaction hence the decision to terminate their contract.

But uniBank in a statement on the matter said the claims by Korle Bu are false and baseless.

The statement pointed out “that Stanbic approved End-to-End Hospital Revenue Collection Software was not compatible with the uniBank’s software is a total fabrication. In the first place, uniBank was not invited to do a presentation on HMIS with Stanbic. There was no technical assessment on the compatibility of uniBank’s collection software and Stanbic’s End-to-End Hospital Revenue Collection software (assuming KBTH had accepted Stanbic’s software). So for KBTH to assert that the two systems were not compatible was a figment of someone’s imagination.

“uniBank wants to put on record that by a letter dated July 12, 2017 signed by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Felix Anyah, and addressed to the Chief Director, Ministry of Finance, KBTH indicated in paragraph F. that it had appointed Stanbic to provide banking services to KBTH by a letter dated 6th July, 2017. It is therefore totally false for KBTH to state in the last paragraph of their Press Release that “the management decision to engage Stanbic Bank as the sole institution for the onsite banking services in 2016 predated the appointment of the current Acting Chief Executive who started work in June, 2017”.
