The government of Ghana has said it has no interest in who emerges winner in the ongoing presidential elections in Kenya.
In a statement signed by Information minister Mustapha Hamid, the government said who emerges winner the polls is the sole preserve of the Kenyan people.
The statement however acknowledged media reports regarding the deportation of former NPP Chairman Peter Mac Manu from Kenya.
“The government of Ghana has been monitoring events with regards to the Kenyan elections of Tuesday August 8,2017. Government has also noted with concerns the deportation from Kenya of Mr. Peter Mac Manu, a Ghanaian citizen who went to Kenya as head of the Democratic Union of Africa’s observer mission to that country.
“It is not the first time that he has acted in this capacity. We wish to make it clear that the government of Ghana has no interest whatsoever in who emerges winner in Tuesday’s poll. The decision as to who leads Kenya for the next five years as President remains the sole preserve of the Kenyan people,” the statement said.
It added: “ We pray for a successful and credible election and hope that the winning candidate at the end of the process will receive the unalloyed support of all”.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta is facing a fierce contest in his long-time political rival Raila Odinga in the polls many watchers have described as close to call.
