Aviation Minister Kofi Adda has dismissed reports that the Kotoka International Airport has been privatised.
It comes after workers of the Ghana Airports Company stormed the premises of the KIA in protest over reports that the state organisation had been privatised by the Akufo-Addo government.
The protest follows a cabinet approval for engagement of the private company which the Aviation ministry has described as a strategic partner.
The Minister had earlier said what government was considering was a proposed Strategic Partnership Arrangement between GACL and TAV-SUMMA Consortium to improve service delivery and expansion of infrastructure at KIA to achieve government’s vision of making Ghana the Aviation Hub within the West African Sub-Region.
That assurance, however, has done little to dissuade some workers who believe the government is bent on privatising Airports.
Some of the staff who spoke to Starr News at today’s protest expressed their disappointment in the alleged move by government over fears they will lose their jobs.
But speaking to Naa Dedei Tettey on Starr Today Wednesday, Mr Adda said the protest is a deliberate ploy by some individuals to tarnish the reputation of the government.
“There is a process you go through in engagements like these, you write to the presidency and get the approval before you even engage them. If you look at the paper, you realise that we have not gotten there at all. We have not even engaged the management or union on what we are going to do. Somebody is just trying to give Kofi Adda and government a bad name,” he said.
