Legal Aid Ghana has backed Francis Xavier Sosu’s decision to appeal the three-year ban slapped on him by the General Legal Council.
The Executive Director of Legal Aid, Yahaya Alhassan Seini has pleaded on the human rights lawyer’s behalf.
“There are some parts that we want to plead on his behalf, for some aspects of the matter I should think so, he should appeal,” Seini told Starr News.
The General Legal Council in a letter informing Lawyer Sosu of his ban stated that he was investigated and found guilty of professional misconduct.
“The disciplinary committee of the General legal Council formally charged Lawyer Sosu under Rule 2(4) of the legal profession (professional conduct and etiquette) Rules, 1969 L.I. 613 and that he; while acting as Council for Torgbui Afede XIV, in a matter between Torgbui Afede and the Chief of Defense Staff, minister of interior, Attorney General and another took to Facebook with pictures of the parties and comments on the case to the public with his firm’s name, address and telephone numbers attached, with the primary motive of personal advertisement and touting,” portions of the statement said.
Legal practitioners including Abraham Amaliba have described the suspension as harsh and not meriting the crime committed by Sosu.
The suspended lawyer has since served notice he will appeal the decision and is expected to file it today.
