Portuguese and Liverpool forward, Diogo Jota, has tragically passed away in a car accident alongside his brother, Andres Silva, according to reports from Spanish news outlets.
The 28-year-old attacker, who won the English Premier League with Liverpool and contributed to nine goal involvements last season, also lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy with Portugal.
Jota recently tied the knot with his long time partner, Rute Cardoso, on June 22. The couple had three children.
The accident is reported to have occurred near Zamora, with early investigations indicating that a burst tire caused Jota’s Lamborghini to crash while overtaking. Authorities continue to look into the details surrounding the incident.

In a statement, the Portuguese Football Federation expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andres Silva, sharing that they are deeply devastated by the news.
Jota’s last goal came against Everton in the Premier League. He earned over 40 caps for the Portugal national team, winning two major titles. Jota began his career at Gondomar, progressed through Paços de Ferreira, and developed further at Porto, Atlético Madrid, and Wolves, where he helped secure Premier League promotion before joining Liverpool in 2020.
