The Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that President John Mahama has given no indication of any plans to remove the Special Prosecutor (OSP), despite recent petitions calling for the officeholder’s removal.
The clarification comes in the wake of three petitions submitted to President Mahama, which sought the removal of the Special Prosecutor over perceived incompetence.
Speaking to EIB Network’s Presidential Affairs Correspondent, Abdul-Hanan Adam, Mr. Ofosu stated that while citizens are entitled to express opinions about public officeholders, any decision on the OSP rests solely with the President.
He said, “Well, first of all, let me say that again guardians have to run commentary on public office holders and what they perceive to be their output… But as a government, as far as I sit here, the one who will call such a shot will be the president himself.”
Mr. Ofosu emphasized that the OSP’s office is legally established, noting, “The OSP was set up by law. So any move to the contract would have to go through due process and law… there’s no indication from the boss himself, the president, that he is going to take any such action.”
