President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the 120-Day Social Contract Taskforce, a strategic body tasked with ensuring the swift execution of 26 critical interventions outlined in his administration’s 120-day plan.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Mahama emphasized that the initiative is a fulfillment of his social contract with the people of Ghana, who gave him a strong mandate in the recent elections. He explained that while some background work had already begun, the formal swearing-in of ministers now allows for a sectoral focus on achieving key targets.
“As part of our social contract with the people of Ghana, we came with a 120-day plan that lists things we intend to achieve within the first 120 days,” President Mahama stated. He noted that some of these goals have varying timelines, with certain tasks targeted for 90 days, others for 14 days, and some requiring legislative action through Parliament.
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs has been appointed as chair of the taskforce, responsible for coordinating efforts across ministries to ensure that all targets are met efficiently.
President Mahama provided updates on several ongoing and upcoming initiatives, including:
• National Economic Dialogue – The Planning Committee is actively working.
• Constitutional Review Process – A dedicated committee has been set up.
• National Educational Review – The Minister of Education has already made significant progress.
He urged newly appointed ministers to assess their sectoral mandates and work closely with the Senior Presidential Advisor to ensure all interventions are executed within the stipulated timeframe.
“We must be faithful to the mandate that the people of Ghana gave us,” President Mahama stressed, highlighting the government’s commitment to delivering results within the first 120 days.
Following his remarks, the president excused the media for a closed-door working session, where ministers and officials reviewed the detailed execution plan for the 120-day commitments.
