The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice Lawrence Lazzaglah Mensah has ordered Gregory Afoko, the man who is standing trial for the death of the late New Patriotic Party’s Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama to open his defence on November 19.
This was after the prosecution led Chief State Attorney Matthew Amponsah closed its case on Tuesday with its 14th witness in the person of Detective Inspector Augustine Nkrumah, the investigator in the matter.
After the witness had been cross-examined, Mr Amponsah told the court that they had no more witnesses to call and closed the case.
The court, therefore, called on Mr Afoko to open his defence on the next adjourned date of November 19.
Earlier, the wife of the late NPP chairman, Hajia Zenabu Adams, Quinn Asigri, Tawfik Murtala, Zuweira Isaka, Detective Sergeant Benjamin Kusi, formerly of the Bolgatanga Regional CID among others have all given evidence.
Mr Afoko who is facing the charge of murder has denied any wrongdoing by entering a not guilty plea, before the court which also comprises of a seven-member jury.
He was alleged to have poured acid on the late NPP chairman which led to his demise on May 20, 2015.
