Mahama orders MMDCEs to declare assets by July 15

President John Dramani Mahama has directed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare their assets by July 15, 2025, reinforcing his administration’s stance on transparency and accountability in public office.

Speaking at a training and orientation programme for MMDCEs on Wednesday, June 18, the President emphasised the importance of ethical leadership and the need for public officeholders to set the standard for integrity.

“In the meantime, I wish to remind you that you are among the officeholders who are required to declare your assets, and so I expect that by 15th July, all of you will have declared your assets,” he stated.

President Mahama also hinted at a significant shift in local governance, revealing that recommendations from the ongoing constitutional review process support the election of MMDCEs rather than their current appointment by the presidency.

The directive follows an earlier warning from the President that political appointees who failed to comply with the May 7, 2025 deadline for asset declaration would face dismissal.

According to the Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act, 1998 (Act 550), all public officers are mandated to declare their assets and liabilities upon assumption of office. The legislation aims to curb corruption and promote integrity in public service.
