President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to provide immediate support for traders affected by the devastating fire that gutted shops and goods at Adum in the Ashanti Region on Friday morning.
Expressing sympathy for the victims, President Mahama assured them of his government’s commitment to swift relief efforts.
Speaking after inspecting the scene at Adum, President Mahama urged NADMO to work closely with local authorities to assess the extent of damage and ensure affected traders receive the necessary assistance to rebuild their businesses.
Fire engulfed several shops along the Kumasi railway line behind Hello FM, near Kejetia.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
However, their efforts by firefighters have been hampered by accessibility challenges, making it difficult to bring the situation under control.
EIB News Ashanti Regional correspondent Isaac Justice reports thick smoke billowing from the affected area, with shop owners scrambling to salvage their goods. It is unclear if there have been any casualties or the extent of the damage.
Armed police personnel have arrived at the scene to provide security.
