Former president, and flagbearer for the opposition NDC, John Mahama has promised to establish a Gari Processing Factory in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency if elected president.
Addressing a mini rally in the Brakwa community during his tour of the Central Region, Mahama highlighted the area’s abundant land and water resources, which he believes would support a thriving factory and reduce unemployment in the community. “A strong economy is the foundation of a prosperous country. When the economy thrives, it creates money and jobs,” he said.
In addition to this, he promised the development of cocoa and palm oil processing factories to further boost local industry and employment opportunities.
Mahama also accused the current NPP administration of economic mismanagement, and failing to deliver on their promises to Ghanaians. He noted that while in opposition, the NPP claimed Ghana was not a poor country, yet now, with them in power, resources seem scarce. “They said Ghana wasn’t a poor country, but now the money is nowhere to be found.” he added.
The former president is currently embarking his three-day campaign tour in the Central region as part of his preparation towards the upcoming general elections on December 7.
