The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, says President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to continue inherited road projects was guided by leadership principles and the Constitution.
In an interview on State of Affairs with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Monday, January 26, 2026, Mr. Agbodza explained the rationale behind the decision.
“The president gave a commitment based on the directive principles of state policy,” he said. “That as much as possible, when you meet projects started by a previous government, you should continue them.”
He noted that President Mahama publicly assured contractors during the campaign that projects would not be abandoned.
“He said he would not jettison existing projects. He would take them on and continue them,” Agbodza stated.
The minister added that this commitment restored confidence across the construction sector.
Mr. Agbodza emphasized that the new administration, led by President Mahama, is focused on addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges nationwide.
“Now a government has come into power with President Mahama at the helm, and we are ready to do what is expected of us to address the issues in every corner of the country,” he said.
