Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), whose body was reportedly burned after being shot in Nangodi near Bolgatanga.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the MP described the incident as a “dastardly act” and called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“I hereby condemn, in no uncertain terms, the shooting, killing and burning of the body of Mohammed Seidu Akugri,” Ayariga stated. “My heartfelt condolences to the family of my late comrade.”
He further urged the public, especially residents of the area, to remain calm and support ongoing peace efforts spearheaded by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to restore stability to the Bawku enclave.
“I commend the youth for the restraint displayed so far and their recent efforts to maintain peace in Bawku. Significant progress is being made and no one should be allowed to derail the process,” the MP added.
The circumstances surrounding Akugri’s murder remain unclear, and police have not yet issued a formal update.
