Member of the Council of State, H.E. Maxwell Boakye, has engaged the Western Nzema Traditional Council at Beyin in the Jomoro Municipality as part of the final leg of his ongoing tour of traditional councils across the Western Region.
During the engagement, the Omanhene and President of the Western Nzema Traditional Council, Awulae Kwasi Amakyie III, together with Nananom, outlined key development priorities aimed at accelerating socio-economic growth in the Nzema area while preserving its cultural heritage.
Among the major concerns raised was the deteriorating state of roads in the area, which the Council attributed to damage caused by tipper trucks transporting raw materials for tile production.
The traditional leaders called for urgent regulatory interventions and rehabilitation works to restore affected roads and improve mobility for both residents and businesses.
The Council also reiterated the need to fast-track the long-anticipated Petroleum Hub Project, stressing its potential to transform the local economy and create sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.
Additionally, Nananom highlighted the urgent need for the construction and upgrading of the Samenye–New Town–Half Assini–Adu Suazo road to improve connectivity and unlock economic opportunities across the enclave.
To promote youth development and cultural preservation, the chiefs appealed for the establishment of a multi-purpose community centre to host traditional events, support arts and culture, and serve broader community needs.
The completion of the Western Nzema Traditional Council’s Palace was also identified as a priority, with calls for support to ensure it reflects the status and authority of the traditional institution.

Furthermore, the Council advocated for the establishment of a university in the area to develop local human capital and strengthen expertise in sectors including oil and gas, mining, agriculture, and environmental management.
Responding to the concerns, Mr. Boakye assured the Council of his commitment to championing their development priorities through sustained advocacy and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
