Saturday’s investiture of President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has received a major boost following the arrival of several African leaders.
They are Egdar Lungu, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and Uhuru Kenyatta from Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Kenya respectively.
Also in Ghana are the presidents of Algeria, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Abdul Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, Sierra Leone’s Ernest Bai Koroma and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Desalegn.
They will be joined by other leaders to grace the swearing-in ceremony at the Black Star Square (Independence Square) in Ghana’s capital Accra.
Ivory Coast’s leader Alassane Ouattara is the special guest of honour as organisers expect about 6000 people at the grounds.
Akufo-Addo will be taking over the reigns of the young oil-producing West African country from January 7, 2017 after a landslide win over incumbent John Mahama in December 2016.
Nana Addo becomes the fifth president of Ghana under the Fourth Republican constitution of 1992.
