Angry residents of Muramura Community in Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region on Sunday lynched and set fire into the body of a 29-year-old mentally derailed Kofi Sammy for allegedly killing a 28-year-old pregnant Woman Alimatu Karim and mutilating parts of her body for food.
Both bodies have been retrieved by Police and deposited at the Holy Family Hospital .
Some residents who spoke to EIB’s Agoo Fm in Nkawkaw Sunday April 5,2019 explained that the deceased pregnant woman, Alimatu Karim, left home Saturday morning to look for cola nuts but failed to return home.
They informed the Police and requested their assistance to search for the deceased but according to the residents, the Police didn’t show up and so they decided to organize themselves for the search on Sunday.
During the search in the bush, the deceased suspect was seen cooking some meat suspected to be human flesh and arrested him.
He subsequently admitted killing the pregnant woman and that he was cooking her flesh to eat. He subsequently led the people to a pit where the dismembered body of Alimatu was recovered.
The angry mob assaulted the suspect and marched him to the Chief Palace to be held while awaiting the Police .
However, the delayed arrival of the Police angered the mob who forcibly took the suspect from the palace and lynched him and set fire into the body. Subsequently the Police team accompanied by the District Chief Executive arrived at the scene and doused the fire.
Both bodies were retrieved and deposited at the morgue .
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, investigation has commenced in to the horrific incident.
