Political analyst Dr. Kweku Asah-Asante has questioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about the legacy they aim to leave behind after their time in office.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Asah-Asante expressed his disappointment in the current handling of their final duties, particularly highlighting the Finance Minister’s failure to present the mini-budget.
This delay led to Parliament closing and resuming on January 2, 2025.
He criticised the NPP’s behavior, calling it “uncomfortable,” and urged the party to reflect on their mistakes.
Dr. Asah-Asante emphasised that trying to make things difficult for the incoming government would not create a positive legacy.
Dr. Asah-Asante acknowledged that the Akufo-Addo-led government had accomplished some positive things for Ghana, but he pointed out that it was not enough to satisfy the people, which is why they voted the party out of power.
He called on the NPP to act fairly and responsibly as they exit.
He cautioned the NPP against contesting the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) plan for the vice president-elect to present the budget after being sworn in, suggesting they “shy away” and focus on reorganisation.
He said, “The posture of the NPP, I’m very uncomfortable with it , you have done your bit the people of this counter has rejected you , it is not the end of the world , you must take a back seat , look at what went wrong, reflect and improve yourself and prepare ahead of 2028. You want to hold the incoming government to ransom , is that what they want to do. I’m not sure that is the legacy they want to leave at the end of the day.”
