Minority moves motion on vote of censure against Ofori-Atta

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu on Thursday, November 10, 2022 moved the motion on vote of censure against the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

However, the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin raised a preliminary objection against the motion insisting their side considers the motion as unfair, and unjust and impugns criminality to the Finance Minister.

The arguments of the Effutu MP were shot down by Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga.

Speaker Alban Bagbin consequently rejected the objection of the deputy majority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He however ruled the motion would be referred to a special committee and not debated immediately.

Ahead of the proceedings today, the 80 NPP MPs disclosed the majority will not support the minority motion of censure against the finance minister.

Addressing a Press conference in Parliament, the Effiduase-Asokore lawmaker Dr. Ayew Afriye explained the motion has some criminal allegations against the finance minister which cannot be substantiated thus their decision to stay clear off it.

Meanwhile, the NPP MPs have reversed their decision to cede to a plea by President Akufo-Addo to allow finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta to present the 2023 budget and compete IMF negotiations before acting on demand for his removal.

According to the majority MPs, recent utterances of the minister have compelled them to restore their original demand of his immediate removal.
