A few days before the end of the EC limited registration exercise across the country, the two major political parties in Tolon, Kumbungu, Nanton, Sagnarigu districts, and Tamale Metropolis have agreed to make the registration process less chaotic by using a daily numbering quota system to transport applicants to the Electoral Commission office.
As part of the limited registration exercise conducted by the EC, chaotic scenes were recorded at the registration centres in Tolon, Nanton, Kumbungu, Sagnarigu, and Tamale.
The EC officials had to spend long hours attending to applicants who were bussed to the venue due to defective machines. The offline registration process was challenging because EC officials needed to use a code.
The replacement of the defective machine by the EC enhanced the registration process at each registration center visited by the news team in the Northern region. There are still long queues due to poor internet connectivity in these areas, however.
Some assemblymen who spoke to GHOne News said they have to transport and feed the applicants daily and its cost implications to them.
The Deputy National Director for Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Rashid Tanko Computer, interacted with the reps during his visit and expressed appreciation to both political parties for the arrangement since it will encourage other applicants to show interest in the exercise.
