The Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Defence and Interior Seth Kwame Acheampong has supported the Atibie Government Hospital with an amount of GHC5,000 for hand sanitizer production.
The hospital’s Pharmacy Department has produced Hand Sanitizers which is one item used to prevent the contracting of the Coronavirus(COVID-19).
The Medical Superintendent Dr. Akoto Ampaw in an interview with Agoo FM’s Ebenezer Kojo Nyavor said the alcohol content is at least 70% and includes glycerin, hydrogen peroxide, and colour.
He said their capacity for production is not extremely high although they can produce well enough, due to the unavailability of alcohol, carbomer and other useful materials which have become scarce.
When asked if they are available for the market he said individuals can purchase the hospital produced hand sanitizers at the various pharmaceutical centres in the Kwahu South District but do not encourage people to buy in bulk.
“We discourage people from buying in bulk but companies or other institutions who want to buy in bulk can make a special offer for production’’. He said
Dr. Akoto Ampaw also used the opportunity to appeal to other agencies to support the hospital in order to produce more since they have a committed team that is ready to serve the District and Ghana as a whole.
Dr Akoto Ampaw commended the MP Seth Acheampong for the support and the DCE Emmanuel Attah Ofori Snr who has also donated some amount of money to the team.
On his part, the Mpraeso Legislature Seth Acheampong commended the hospital for such a move adding that there is the need to support them to do more.
He, therefore, donated some useful items to the District COVID-19 team to be distributed to the various health centers and the communities across board.
The items include over 50 PPEs (for health workers), over 100 Veronica Buckets, over 100 bowls and buckets, over 100 soaps, over 300 tissues, hand gloves, and nose masks.
