The headline sponsor of Asante Kotoko, MTN Ghana, has reaffirmed its support for the club by officially handing over an ultra-modern, refurbished football training pitch to the team at Adako Jachie.

The special ceremony held on Thursday in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti region saw the telecom giant express its profound delight at partnering the Kumasi-based team.

Addressing journalists, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Ghana, Noel Kojo Ganson mentioned that the presentation was born out of their long-standing relationship, the passion and investment to improve player performance which translates into higher patronage of games by supporters and MTN’s overall dedication to improving sports development.

The rehabilitation which took a contract period of 8 months and an extra 6 months of maintenance included growing fresh grass, pitch marking, drainage system, borehole project for irrigation purposes, fencing and technical bench among others.

Mr. Ganson expressed optimism that the latest gesture of the renovated training pitch, will not be the end of other great things to come.

“So far I think it’s been a great opportunity for both companies being in this relationship over the years and we’re working together as partners to ensure that this relationship actually brings benefits to the lovers of sports, supporters of Kotoko, players, management and also to the customers of MTN; therefore the improvement and the growth is not going to end.”

Touching on adding other facilities like changing rooms to the refurbished project, the MTN Chief Marketing Officer revealed that: “these are requests that always come, and as a business we need to sit down as partners and look at what are the most critical things we need to do to make sure that the objective coming into this partnership is achieved.”

He further congratulated and wished Kotoko well for emerging as winners of the Normalization Committee tournament by beating Karela Football Club in Kumasi, making them qualify for the CAF Champions League.

Moreover, the MTN CMO intimated that the network would not relent in continuously giving its existing and prospective customers, the best of products and services.

“To our cherished customers, we shall continue to excite you with cutting edge technological innovations. One such innovation is the launch of the MTN Turbonet; a super-fast 4G+ Plug and Play WI-FI device that enables Ghanaians to experience the very benefits of a connected life.”

On his part, Chief Executive Officer of Kumasi Asante Koto, George Amoako was grateful to the board, management and staff MTN Ghana for the project, explaining it could not have come at a better time.

Mr. Amoako stated that the project will help reduce the incidence of injuries the boys have to contend with due to bad pitches in the past.

Representatives of the life patron of Asante Kotoko, His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Adako Jachiehene and the Ayeduasehene meanwhile challenged the Kotoko players to give off their best and also accept constructive criticisms which will help them improve their craft.

Other dignitaries from MTN, the National Sports Authority, local contractor Hartiffan Company and Project Consultant Multi-Build all witnessed the handing over.
