The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with the National Security, has arrested five individuals believed to be involved in the manufacturing and distribution of fake DV plates across Ghana.
The suspects were apprehended in a joint operation at Lapaz, Narhman, Tarkwa, and Kumasi. They have since been arraigned in court and are currently on remand, with their next court appearance scheduled for March 17, 2026.
Authorities say two additional suspects linked to the operation remain at large.
According to the DVLA, “Many of the fake DV plates released and distributed by the cartel are issued together with fake motor insurance documents, creating the impression of authenticity of the plates.”
The Authority has cautioned the public on the dangers posed by fake DV plates, emphasizing that those eligible for DV plates, as outlined under Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), have been properly supplied by the Authority.
The DVLA further warned, “Subregulation 11 of Regulation 23 of L.I. 2180 prohibits and criminalizes the forging and use of forged DV plates as well as driving a motor vehicle which displays a forged or duplicate copy of a plate.”
The Authority underscored that all qualifications for the use of DV plates are clearly defined in Regulation 23, and individuals who violate these provisions are in breach of the law.
