Two people have died and 14 others, including a police officer, sustained injuries following disturbances at Nchiraa in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 3, 2026, following the community’s Yam festival celebration.

According to the Bono Regional Police Command, the Wenchi Divisional Police has restored calm in the area after the disturbances erupted at the Four Junction.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m., shortly after the Yam festival programme had ended.

Police said Nana Tabiri Yaw II and his sub-chiefs were being escorted to his palace when a gunshot was fired, triggering the disturbances.

The police statement said two people died in the incident, while 13 others, including a police officer, sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
