NPP communications director hopeful, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of using arrests and other developments to divert public attention from its shortcomings.
Speaking to Isaac Addae on The Verdict on Starr FM on Tuesday, August 25, Mr Aboagye said the government creates what he described as a “facade” whenever it faces difficult questions about its performance.
“Let’s take the conversation off the substance and let’s move on, in spite of the challenges. That’s the stalking trade: they create a facade for everything,” he said.
He alleged that the government sometimes turns attention to political opponents instead of addressing concerns about its own performance.
“Either they are arresting the adversaries to cover up an inefficiency, either they always seem to create a story to cover up some inefficiency,” he stated.
Mr Aboagye made the comments while discussing the reported $1.7 billion loss linked to gold trading. He argued that the controversy should be examined on its substance rather than allowing other developments to dominate the conversation.
He questioned why attention was being directed elsewhere when, in his view, the central issue was the reported loss of state funds and the circumstances surrounding it.
“That’s exactly what they are doing with the losses as well,” he said.
Mr Aboagye stressed that Ghanaians must not lose sight of the substantive questions surrounding government decisions, particularly when public resources are involved.
