Three Aspirants contesting the Parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akwatia constituency ahead of the September 2, by- election will face vetting committee today Thursday.
This follows successful filing of their nomination forms at the Eastern Regional Secretariat of the party on Wednesday, July 30.
The three aspirants are former MP and 2024 parliamentary candidate, Henry Yiadom Boakye, also known as Okoyo, legal practitioner Bernard Bediako Baidoo and Erasmus Koney Ali, popularly known as Asanka.
After the vetting, balloting will be done immediately to determine their positions on the ballot papers.
The party has stated that all the aspirants qualify to contest therefore until any unforseen adverse findings all will be allowed to contest.
Henry Yiadom Boakye told journalists in Koforidua after filing his nomination forms that he is seeking a second term to continue and complete several developmental initiatives he began during his tenure between 2021 and 2025.

“The one-term syndrome in Akwatia have sent Akwatia back in terms of infrastructure, road network. That one-term syndrome should be the thing of the past so that we can have enough time to work, to develop. And again, that my president is in government, I will be able to do a lot of lobbying”. Said Henry Boakye Yiadom.
Mr Boakye Yiadom also said the surprise entry of Bernard Bediako Baidoo, his lawyer, in the 2024 election petition against the late MP, is a testament to the beauty of democracy.
“For a good seven months, I have been with him together. We’ve been to High Court. We’ve been to Supreme Court together. That is the beauty of democracy. If the question that you ask, my answer is the beauty of democracy. He is a very nice man. We have been together. He’s a constituency secretary”
Meanwhile, Ashmeiu Gbenga, special assistant to Erasmus Koney Ali, says his candidate has what it takes to win the seat for the NDC, citing his extensive community contributions as part of his corporate social responsibility as a miner.
“And as an individual who hasn’t even had a chance to occupy such high office, through his own means, he’s been able to create a road network which by default has his name on it as Asanka Road, Asanka Bridge. He’s built a three-unit classroom block and teachers and headmasters office for the development of the constituency. He has a mosque. In fact, if you should have the chance to go to Akwatia, it is almost a Saudi standard built for the good people of Akwetia. He’s done a lot. So, if he’s given this nod, then I think it is not in bad”
Ashmeiu Gbenga, Personal Assistant tauted.
A member of Bernard Bediako’s campaign team, Yaw Antwi filed his nomination form.
The lawyer had earlier said, although he was counsel for the former MP, as constituency secretary he is eligible to contest in this primaries.
The NDC will hold its primaries on August 4, ahead of the by-election on September 2.
