Member of Parliament for Yendi, Abdul Fatawu Allahasan Jofa highlighted the NDC government’s approach to public sector recruitments, stressing fairness, legality, and ethical governance.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s GHToday with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on Thursday, March 5, 2026, he contrasted current practices with those of previous administrations.
“In 2017, 13,000 recruitments—including district directors of the National Service Scheme—were annulled without forming committees or reviewing the regularity of the appointments,” he said, noting that the past approach lacked due process.
“Today, over 2,000 recruitments have been reviewed, 1,500 reinstated, and only 541 found irregular,” Jofa added, emphasizing that the government carefully distinguished between regular and irregular appointments.
He further noted the administration’s commitment to inclusivity, stating that persons with disabilities whose appointments did not fully comply with due process were still validated, reflecting a focus on fairness rather than vindictiveness.
The Yendi MP also explained that timing and budget considerations influence recruitment decisions. Committees were established to review processes and invite institutions to explain their procedures, ensuring transparency and accountability.
“At the conclusion of the review, only 500 of over 2,000 recruitments were affected, reflecting a careful, measured approach,” he said, demonstrating the government’s commitment to both legality and ethical governance, and a deliberate move away from vindictive practices in prior transitions.
