The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it will hold its parliamentary primaries for the Tamale Central Constituency by-election on September 6, 2025.

In a statement signed by General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the Party outlined the guidelines for the contest, including the sale and submission of nomination forms, payment of filing fees, and the release of the delegates list after vetting.

According to the directive, aspirants are required to pay GH¢5,000 for nomination forms and GH¢40,000 as a filing fee. Female aspirants and persons living with disabilities, however, will enjoy a 50 percent reduction on the filing fee.

The NDC emphasized that nomination forms can only be collected and submitted at the Party’s Northern Regional Office. Payments, it added, must be made into the Party’s official account at UMB Bank, Adabraka branch, with no cheques or bank drafts accepted.

Official Primaries Timetable
• Opening of Nominations: August 21, 2025
• Closing of Nominations: August 23, 2025
• Vetting of Aspirants: August 26, 2025
• Release of Vetted Aspirants List: August 27, 2025
• Primaries (Election Day): September 6, 2025

The by-election follows the tragic death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025. The Electoral Commission has since scheduled the by-election for September 30, 2025.

Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will not participate in the contest, citing respect for the late MP and the prevailing atmosphere of mourning. Political analysts, however, believe the NPP’s decision also reflects the constituency’s status as an NDC stronghold.

The NDC has called on aspirants and stakeholders to conduct their campaigns with fairness, unity, and decorum in order to safeguard the integrity of the Party’s internal processes.
