Nigerian billionaire and telecom pioneer Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr., affectionately known as “The Spirit of Africa,” visited his longtime friend and brother, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, at his residence in Accra. The two spent quality time together, reaffirming their enduring friendship and the strong ties between Ghana and Nigeria.
Dr. Adenuga, chairman of telecom giant Globacom and energy firm Conoil, arrived in Accra for the visit and departed back to Lagos later the same evening. Though the details of their discussions were kept private, sources close to both leaders described the meeting as cordial and significant in the context of ongoing cooperation between the two West African nations.
President Mahama, who took office again in January 2025, has been steering Ghana’s economy toward recovery, with notable improvements such as a strengthened cedi and reduced fiscal pressures. Adenuga’s business interests in telecommunications and energy align closely with Ghana’s development goals, making their dialogue particularly relevant to regional economic collaboration.
This encounter follows a history of mutual respect and support. In 2016, President Mahama conferred Ghana’s highest civil honour, the Companion of the Star of Ghana, on Dr. Adenuga in recognition of his outstanding contributions to business and socio-economic development across Africa. Adenuga’s investments have created thousands of jobs and expanded telecom infrastructure, notably through Globacom’s services in Ghana and other African countries.
The visit underscores the deepening partnership between Ghana and Nigeria in sectors such as telecoms, energy, and finance, reflecting a broader vision of African unity and progress championed by both leaders.
After their meeting, Dr. Adenuga returned to Nigeria, leaving behind a reaffirmed bond between two influential figures committed to Africa’s growth and prosperity.
