Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reassured Ghanaians that the incoming government is prepared to handle the country’s finances despite the outgoing administration’s failure to present a mini-budget for the first quarter of 2025.
This comes after the Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam failed to present a mini-budget for the first quarter of 2025, as the new government prepares to take office.
Dr. Ato Forson, in a brief statement expressed concerns about the government’s lack of preparation, which could disrupt essential services and place unnecessary burdens on citizens.
However, he emphasised that Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang can present the expenditure in advance of appropriation to Parliament after being sworn in on January 7, 2025.
Dr. Forson cautioned the outgoing Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government that they will be held responsible for any unmet state commitments and obligations from January 1 to January 7, 2025.
The statement noted, “Comrades, there is no cause for alarm! Even though there will be no Minister of Finance on January 7, 2025, the Vice President can present the expenditure in advance of appropriation to Parliament at any time after being sworn in on January 7. Parliament will be properly constituted to expedite the approval process.”
“While we are deeply disappointed by this development, we caution the outgoing Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government that they will bear full responsibility for all unmet state commitments and obligations from January 1 to January 7, 2025.”
