The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has charged government not to implement what he described as “noble” educational policy – the Free SHS – with experimental financing.
Mr. Iddrisu, who warned at a press conference Monday September 11, 2017 that the “the piecemeal approach” to the implementation of the government’s flagship programme will compromise quality told Accra-based Citi FM Tuesday that government needs to roll out the policy with an assurance of “reliable, adequate, sustainable financing.”
“Let us not pursue this noble objective which is important for the future of our students and dear to parents’ hearts with experimental financing,” he admonished.
He proffered that the government should consider using revenues of the country’s oil to finance the policy.
Meanwhile, the Free Senior High School policy, will be launched today, Tuesday, 12 September 2017 at the West African Secondary School (WASS) at Adenta in Accra.
It will be launched by Presdent Akufo-Addo to officially announce its takeoff.
“Nana Akufo-Addo is expected to reiterate the various components of this programme, justify why he thinks that this is the best way for our country to go and to renew his commitment to see to it that the next generation of Ghanaian students have the best that they should have as far as education is concern,” the Information Minister Mustapha Hamid said.
