As the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up for the election of new national officers at its national conference this weekend, the party’s Volta regional executives have thrown their weight behind the Acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay for the substantive position.
According to them, Mr. Blay, during the party’s 2015 internal crisis rose up to the challenge and safely steered the affairs of the NPP to a resounding electoral victory in the 2016 polls with the support of some key national officers and the party’s grassroots.
“Mr. Freddie Blay proved to the then demoralized and hopeless patriots of our tradition that with determination and the can do spirit, we could rock the boat safely to the shores; the result of which we now pride ourselves as the most popular political party in the country, having recaptured power from the National Democratic Congress with a landslide victory,” the Regional chairman, Makafui Woanyah stated at a press conference at Hohoe on Tuesday.
He added that Mr. Blay’s personal support to the progress of the party in the Volta Region and the NPP in general was unmatched and called on all delegates from the region to give an overwhelming endorsement to Mr. Blay’s candidature at the Koforidua conference.
“We wish to state that we have seen for ourselves and indeed, every well-meaning patriot can attest to the works of the candidate, Mr. Freddie Blay, as acting national chairman of the New Patriotic Party,” Mr. Woanyah stated and added that, “We must maintain Blay to retain power.”
The regional chairman was flanked by other regional officers including, Mr. Joseph Homenya, Secretary; Mr. Korsi Bodjah, Organizer; King David Nkanbonam ,Youth organizer, as well some constituency chairmen.
They have also in the past weeks, endorsed the candidature of John Boadu for the General Secretary position and Mr. Sammy Awuku for national organizer.
Meanwhile, Pollster Ben Ephson believed it will take a miracle for Mr. Stephen Ntim to be elected the national chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) at its national conference this weekend.
Mr. Ntim, who is eyeing the top position for the fourth time running, is contesting the acting national chairman Freddie Blay, who led the Elephant family back to power in 2016.
Mr. Ephson stated Mr. Blay is the obvious choice of the delegates looking at how he has steered affairs of the party and his track record, adding he has the majority support of the party’s Members of Parliament.
