The National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the party’s newly elected leadership to unite members and begin preparations towards the 2028 general elections.
In a congratulatory message to the new national executives, Vice Chairman of the Council of Elders, Alhaji Sulemana Yirimea, said the party must put its internal contests behind it and focus on rebuilding its structures.
“The journey to rescue our nation has begun,” the Council said.
It stressed that the NPP would need to remain united, disciplined and well-organised as it rallies behind its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 election.
“We need a united, disciplined and well-organised Party to rally behind our formidable flagbearer, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and work together towards victory in the 2028 General Elections,” the statement said.
The elders also urged the new leadership to reach out to all candidates who contested the various national positions and draw on their experience and ideas.
“They should not be seen as opponents or be left on the sidelines. In the supreme interest of the Party, we must bring everyone on board and make use of the experience, knowledge and ideas of all our members,” they said.
The call follows the NPP’s national delegates conference in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, where new national executives were elected, including John Boadu as National Chairman and Justin Frimpong Kodua, who retained the position of General Secretary.
The Council of Elders said its doors would remain open to the new leadership for “advice, guidance and discussion” as the party begins its rebuilding process.
