The National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are currently convening an emergency meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra to deliberate on pressing issues within the party.
High on the agenda is a proposed review of the party’s constitution and a formal request from the family of National Chairman Stephen Ayensu Ntim for him to be temporarily excused from party duties due to health concerns.
According to a letter dated June 16, 2025, Mr. Ntim’s family petitioned the NPP Council of Elders, citing “cognitive dissonance and mental incapacitation” as the basis for the request. The letter emphasized that Mr. Ntim’s continued participation in active politics could further compromise his health and infringe upon his personal rights.
The meeting has drawn several key figures of the party, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Member of Parliament for Bantama Francis Asenso-Boakye, MP for Assin South Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, and a host of other MPs and senior party officials.
This crunch meeting is expected to produce significant decisions that could shape the future of the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
