The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened expressions of interest for members seeking to contest as its parliamentary candidates in the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the party announced that prospective candidates must declare their intention online between Sunday, November 1, and Tuesday, November 10, 2026.
Interested members are required to complete an application form through the party’s designated portal, ppc.nppghana.org, within the stipulated period. The party stated that applications would not be accepted outside the window.
Each prospective candidate is also required to pay a non-refundable application fee of GH¢5,000.
The NPP said the process marks the beginning of its preparations to select parliamentary candidates for all 276 constituencies ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to the party, the exercise is designed to provide a structured and transparent process that guarantees fairness and equal opportunities for all contestants.
Vetting and training for aspirants
The party indicated that all applicants would undergo vetting and screening to determine their eligibility to contest on its ticket.
It also announced plans to organise capacity-building workshops for prospective parliamentary candidates in December 2026.
The workshops will be held across the Northern, Middle and Southern zones, with details of the venues and vetting schedules to be communicated through the party’s official channels.
The guidelines apply to all prospective candidates, including sitting NPP Members of Parliament, who are not exempt from the process.
NPP maintains ban on campaigning
The party has cautioned prospective candidates against commencing campaign activities following the opening of expressions of interest.
It stressed that declaring an intention to contest does not constitute permission to begin campaigning, adding that its earlier directive prohibiting campaign activities remains in force until official clearance is granted.
The NPP warned that any breach of the directive would attract appropriate sanctions in accordance with the party’s constitution and regulations.
In the statement signed by its Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the party urged prospective aspirants to familiarise themselves with the guidelines and conduct themselves with discipline, decorum and mutual respect throughout the process.
The party said its focus remains on strengthening unity within its ranks as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
