Kwesi Botchway Jnr., political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia, has defended the NPP flagbearer aspirant’s integrity, highlighting it as a key factor setting him apart from other contenders.
The remarks come as the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026, a date approved by the party’s National Executive Committee and National Council to allow sufficient time for campaigning and internal coordination ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Other prominent aspirants in the race include former Agriculture Minister Dr. Bryan Acheampong, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, and former Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Monday, January 19, Botchway emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s clean record as a decisive factor in the upcoming primaries.
“Dr. Bawumia isn’t corrupt, he has his credibility intact.”
He further emphasized the importance of electing a candidate who can act independently, adding, “We want a flag bearer who is clear in his mind and is able to take the fight to the NDC. A candidate who is expecting something from the government is in a compromising situation.”
Botchway noted that delegates are focused on choosing a leader capable of representing the NPP without being influenced by government contracts or financial expectations, underscoring that credibility and independence are decisive factors for the party.
