The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has retained the Ejisu parliamentary seat in by-election held on 30th April 2024.

The party’s candidate Kwabena Boateng polled 27,782 representing 55.79%.

His closest contender Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, a former Member of Parliament for the area who ran as an independent candidate, secured 21,536 votes representing 43.24%.

Esther Osei of the CPP received 89 votes making 0.2%, Beatrice Boakye of the LPG polled 149 votes securing 0.3%, Gabriel Agyemang Joseph, an independent candidate had 222 votes making 0.4% while Attakorah Joseph, also an independent candidate, received 23 votes making 0.05% votes.

Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission Benjamin Banor-Bio described the election as general peaceful, commending the various stakeholders for effective collaboration with the electoral commission and the security agencies.

The Member of Parliament elect Kwabena Boateng commended the Ejisu electorates for electing him to replace the late John Kuma in parliament.

He promised to unite the party base in Ejisu and also ensure the constituency gets its fair share of national developmental infrastructural projects.

During the election, there were allegations of vote-buying leveled by Mr. Aduomi against the NPP.

However, the New Patriotic Party, dismissed the claims, labelling them as an attempt to gain sympathy votes.

But the Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso constituency Dr. Kingsley Nyarko was caught on camera dropping alleged bribe two EC official desk who are currently under investigation.

Reacting to the developmen, Hopson Adorye of the Movement For Change described the NPP’s victory as not a true reflection of the will of the constituent.
