Dr. Abdul-Kabiru Tiah Mahama, Member of Parliament for Walewale, has highlighted the resilience and national character of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), pointing out that criticism from veteran politician Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe has not hindered the party’s growth or electoral success.
His comments come after veteran politician Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe threatened that he and other founding leaders would leave the party if the NPP expelled Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, highlighting ongoing tensions within the party.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, Hon. Tiah Mahama recalled that Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe had previously criticized former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ahead of the 2016 elections.
“He said worse things about Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, but Nana Addo still led the NPP to victory in 2016,” he said, emphasizing the party’s resilience despite dissenting voices.
He further noted that the NPP has continued to thrive even after Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe left the party nearly a decade ago.
“Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has left the party almost a decade today. For the NPP still survived that ten years or that past decade,” Dr. Tiah Mahama stated, underlining that the party’s growth extends far beyond its founding members.
“The NPP is far broader and wider than they would imagine. They should appreciate the fact that NPP could have then be in the pocket of some few people but the party based on its national character has grown beyond the few people who happens to call themselves the founding fathers of that particular tradition,” he added, pointing to the increasing influence of younger generations, including Gen Zs and millennials.
