Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has refused to confirm whether defender Alexander Djiku will feature in Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.
Djiku, who missed last Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Chad after travelling to Moscow for medical checks, has been the subject of intense speculation ahead of the must-win Group I encounter. But Addo made it clear he will not reveal his tactical choices.
“I will never make statements about who will play or who will not,” Addo told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “It’s not against you, but I don’t want Mali to know our line-up. It’s also always good to surprise the opponent. That’s why.”
Ghana currently leads Group I with 16 points, just one ahead of Comoros, while Mali sits in third with 12 points.
Monday’s clash in Accra is being billed as a decisive step in the Black Stars’ bid to secure a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
