Otto Addo remains as Black Stars head coach – Henry Twum

Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has confirmed that Coach Otto Addo remains the head coach of the Black Stars.

The 49-year-old faces an uncertain future after failing to lead the Black Stars to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking their first absence from the tournament in two decades.

After six games in the qualifiers, Ghana recorded three defeats and three draws, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points.

In 10 games played in 2024, the Black Stars recorded just two wins.

Following the team’s failure to qualify for the tournament, there have been calls made to dismiss Otto Addo, who is the head coach of the Black Stars.

Speaking in to GHOne TV on THE GAME, Henry Asante Twum Coach Otto Addo remains the head coach of the Black Stars.

“As things stand he is still the coach of the team, I think that when you sign a contract with the coach until it is abrogated or official agreement is reached with him and his backroom staff whether they are staying or not to continue to do their job. He was here during the festive period, he’s gone back to Germany to continue his work, his coaching and his monitoring. And until something dramatic happens, he being the coach of the team I haven’t been informed that he’s been sacked. I haven’t been informed that he’s going to loose his job, so he remains the coach of the team”.

Although Otto Addo has submitted his technical reports to the Executive Council, Asante Twum stated that a decision will be made during the council’s next meeting.

Otto Addo was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for an additional two years. He succeeded Chris Hughton.
