A 33-year-old Preacher, Christopher Kofi Otchere Sorkpa, has been sentenced to serve a five-year jail term for damaging vehicles at the Forecourt of the Parliament House.

This was after Kofi Otchere Sorkpa pleaded guilty simpliciter to five counts including causing unlawful damages.

The Court presided over by His Honour Mr Samuel Bright Acquah convicted him on his plea and subsequent sentenced him.

For the charge of conspiracy, the Court sentenced him to three years while on the five counts of causing unlawful damage, he was sentenced to five years each.

However, the court said, the convict should serve his term concurrently, meaning he will serve only the highest term of five years.

Wisdom Ahli, 41, who is charged together with Sorkpa for conspiracy, has been remanded to reappear on January 9, 2025 after prosecution deemed his charge as defective.

Per the brief facts of the case, the Complainant is a policeman stationed at Parliament House whilst the 1st accused Christopher Kofi Okyere Sorkpa and the 2nd accused Wisdom Ahli are alleged to be preachers of the gospel and live in Kasoa.

According to the Prosecution, on December 18, 2024, at about 11:00 am, the first and the accused sneaked into Parliament House Car Park.

The Prosecution said, the first accused who was holding a handbag with an earth chisel concealed in it, removed it and caused damage to the windscreen of Two Toyota V8 Vehicles with registration numbers GW 1905 -21; GS 5055 – 17.

He also caused damage to Two Toyota Camry Saloon Cars with registration numbers GB 7539 – 21; G$ 9605 – 21 and one Rav 4 Vehicle with registration number GN 9605 -12 belonging to Hon. Kwaku Okyere Agyekum, Honourable Eugene Boakye Antwi, Jessica Mensah, Sena Atsu and Gifty Gbah.

The second accused, according to the Prosecution was praising the first accused for causing damages to the vehicles.

The two accused persons were arrested and they admitted the offense in their caution statement to Police in the presence of an Independent witness.

The Prosecution said, after investigations the accused persons were charged with the offences and arraigned.
